Athletes suit up for games

A CONTINGENT of young athletes who are heading to the James B. Connolly Games in Casey’s sister city Springfield Ohio, United States, are raring to go after receiving their uniforms recently.
About 34 young athletes from Casey will be participating in a sporting and cultural exchange in June, where they will compete in sports they love, as well as experience another culture by living with an American host family.
City of Casey deputy mayor Colin Butler and Edrington Ward councillor Mick Morland presented the uniforms to the athletes.
“Presenting the uniforms was an exciting event and marks an important stage in preparation for the games,” Cr Butler said.
“The young athletes cannot wait to head off for the trip of their lifetime.”
The City of Casey’s sister city link with Springfield Ohio was established by the former City of Berwick in 1985 and there have been numerous sporting and cultural exchanges between the two cities since then.
“On behalf of the City of Casey, I would like to thank the 2008 Connolly Games organising committee that has played a vital role in coordinating the event, liaising with organisers in Springfield and securing sponsorships and raising more than $26,000 to assist families with costs,” Cr Butler said.
