FOUNTAIN Gate Primary School students received a boost to their book reading efforts last week when an award-winning author dropped in for a chat.
Sally Rippin, well-known author and illustrator of 20 children’s books, read from one of her own books and answered questions about life as a novelist.
The visit was timed to help motivate students taking part in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.
Ms Rippin, the official ambassador for the event, was a big hit at the school.
Grade four student Supriya said: “I have read nearly 40 books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge and am looking forward to reading some more.”
Classmate Daniel agreed, and said he had started reading an Ernest Hemmingway book as part of the challenge.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said the challenge was a terrific way to help students enjoy reading.
“It is wonderful that a famous author has come to meet some of Casey’s students,” she said.
“I know it will really motivate them to continue their involvement in the Premier’s Reading Challenge.”
