THIEVES spoilt the school holidays of two Narre Warren teenagers last week when their bicycles were stolen from a local shopping centre.
Marshal Crowley and friend Josh Kerek chained their bikes up at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre on Monday, 18 September when they went to see a movie.
When they returned a couple of hours later they discovered that their bike chains had been cut and their bicycles were gone.
This is the second time that 15-year-old Marshal has had his bicycle stolen.
Mother Sue Crowley said her son’s first bike had been taken from their garage about two years ago.
Ms Crowley said the thefts had left both boys devastated and ruined their school holidays.
She said both bikes were worth an estimated $600 and Josh had only been given his in June when he turned 16.
Ms Crowley said the boys would now have to save up money they earned at their part-time jobs to replace their bikes.
“These guys have been brought up to be honest and do the right thing and to keep their hands off other people’s property,” she said.
“This has really disappointed them. It is really quite devastating. They are at the age when they still need a bike to get around and be independent and they both love riding.”
The pair has searched local parks and reserves in hope of finding the bikes as well as local secondhand dealers.
The thefts have been reported to police and Ms Crowley said more security surveillance was needed at shopping centres to capture such incidents.
