A FORMER Hallam dancer has posed her way to becoming Australia’s Most Favourite Next Top Model.
Budding model Samantha Downie grew up in Endeavour Hills and recently graced our television screens during the fourth series of Australia’s Next Top Model on pay television channel Fox 8.
The striking brunette was placed third overall but said she was delighted to be crowned Australia’s Most Favourite Next Top Model, taking home a $5000 cash prize.
“I’m still shocked that I was voted the most favourite model,” she said.
The business and commerce student at Berwick’s Monash University was one of 13 girls all vying to be crowned Australia’s Next Top Model.
During the three-month show, Downie said the competition between the contestants grew fierce.
“I was criticised for being too commercial in the modelling industry,” she said.
“I think I have a unique look that represents what Australia is, a multiculturalism country.”
Downie said the best part of the show was learning how to walk, talk and stand like a model.
“We got to meet top designers and some of Australia’s best photographers,” she said.
“I fell in love with designer and judge Alex Perry.”
Despite the judges being harsh and critical while the cameras were rolling, Downie said behind closed doors they were all very supportive.
“You have to learn to be thick-skinned and not take the criticism to heart,” she said.
As part of the show, Downie got to travel to Fiji and New York for her first international photo shoots.
“New York is just like the movies. It’s so alive,” she said.
Being the first one to model in her family, Downie said that the endless support from her family, boyfriend and friends helped her get through the competition.
When the up-and-coming model is not busy studying for university exams or travelling overseas for fashion shoots, Downie enjoys the simple things in life.
“I love to relax and hang out with friends. We often go to the movies and of course I love shopping,” she said.
The budding model has already been signed by leading Sydney agency Priscillas Model Management and will be featured in the upcoming Little Joe clothing campaign.
