Casey Radio 3SER-FM

THERE will be extra interest in Casey Radio 3SER-FM’s coverage of the Casey Scorpions’ Victorian Football League opener against Sandringham on Sunday.
The local station has recorded a coup with the signing of former Scorpions head coach Peter Banfield, who is now in charge of Old Scotch in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, as a special comments man.
Banfield quit after three seasons at the Scorpions’ helm in September after the club decided to advertise his position.
This was despite leading Casey to its first finals appearance in four years.
Making the coverage even more compelling listening is that former Scorpions captain Nigel Carmody, who left after the Banfield saga, will also be in the commentary box.
Casey Radio 3SER-FM is at 97.7 on the dial.
The first bounce at Trevor Barker Beach Oval in Sandringham is at 2pm.

CONGRATULATIONS to Narre Warren athlete Alice Platten for her victory in the Lorraine Donnan Women’s 400-metre Handicap at the Stawell Gift meeting on the weekend.
Platten, who started off 24 metres, ran 52.93 seconds from lane three, pipping Cara White (52.94) and Ramona Casey (52.95) for the honour.
Nick Fielder, who also trains Stawell Gift victor Sam Jamieson, coaches Platten at Ringwood Athletic Club.
Platten finished seventh in the Frontmarkers 400m Handicap and was the only female in the final.

FORMER DEVON MEADOWS and POOWONG forward Rohan Best has already parted company with Peninsula League club BONBEACH before kicking a ball in anger.
Apparently Best’s training regime did not fit the style of the Sharks under ex-SPRINGVALE star Damian Carroll, and that has left a big hole in the goalsquare.

ENDEAVOUR Hills’ second XI cricket side is celebrating premiership success after a comfortable four-wicket triumph over Altona at J.K. Grant Reserve on the weekend.
Shane Peake was brilliant again, snaring 4/26 off 13 overs to help dismiss Altona for just 126.
With the Hills struggling at 5/92, Peake came to the crease and smashed an undefeated 62 to lead his club to success.
Others to make good contributions were Lachlan McIver (2/9), Andrew McIver (2/12), Chris Peake (2/40) and Peter Edwards (44).

THE Easter weekend saw Endeavour Hills tennis star Andrew Coelho record his fifth Futures semi-final showing of the year.
The 20-year-old has made stunning strides in 2008, slashing more than 50 places off his end-of-season ranking to sit at a career-high 304 in the latest men’s world rankings.
