LOCAL children seem to be in good hands if a recent retailer award is anything to go by.
Several retailers from the City of Casey were recently awarded the Kids’R’Safe Retailer Award by Casey mayor Colin Butler.
The businesses were recognised for providing outstanding advice or products that promote safety for young children.
The awards are an initiative of the SafeStart project, which aims to reduce the incidence of unintentional injuries among children from birth to eight years in the municipality.
Casey manager of community safety and support Caroline Bell said: “The awards encourage local retailers to be leaders in child safety by ensuring a range of safe products are available for families in Casey.
“We all have a role to play in making the lives of children as safe as possible such as checking products, using products safely and removing household hazards.
“It’s great to see that retailers are also playing a part in preventing injuries amongst children by putting safety first and making a difference,” Ms Bell said.
Winners of the awards were nominated by the community with all those named going into the draw to win a $500 Westfield Shopping Centre gift voucher.
Local resident, Nicole Humphrey received the $500 Westfield Shopping Centre gift voucher.
The winners of the 2007 Kids’R’Safe Retailer Awards were:
• BabyCo – Narre Warren.
• Bunnings Warehouse – Narre Warren.
• Big W – Endeavour Hills.
• Snuggle Bug – Hallam.
• Autumn Place Pharmacy – Doveton.
• Target.
• Kmart.
