A PLEASANT walk in a Narre Warren North park turned into a terrifying experience for a 72-year-old pensioner last Saturday.
Lou Smith said he came within metres of being hit at high speed by a motorbike rider tearing along public land at Kurll Park.
Mr Smith said he was shaken and distressed by the incident which occurred at about 1.30pm at one of his favourite walking spots for his dogs. “As I walked along the laneway I heard the very loud noise of a trail bike being ridden in the area,” Mr Smith said.
“The noise of the trail bike got louder and within seconds it came over the hill at speed, well into the air and landed on the ground two or three metres from me.”
“I shouted at him and then he went to the bottom of the hill and then he had the audacity to come back at me with his front wheel up in the air.”
Mr Smith, who called police to alert them of the illegal riding, said he wanted something done about the reckless behaviour before someone was hurt.
He has written to local MPs as well as Casey mayor Janet Halsall in the hope something is done.
Mr Smith said there were three motorbike riders using Kurll Park on the day.
“The rider involved in my incident then rode off down out of sight and seemingly decided to make his way home.
“The other two riders, after doing a lap of the park, disappeared via a route at the lower north-west side of the park.”
Residents who come across illegal motorbike riding have been advised by police to call the Casey hoon hotline on 1800 184 666 (1800 18 HOON).
