WHEN Clarrie and Isa Misson met at a social dance in 1944 they gave little thought of spending more than 60 years of their life together.
But the Berwick residents have done just that and celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary recently.
Meeting in the early 20s and marrying two years later at a church in Woolamai was the start of a life-long union for the couple.
They celebrated their milestone with a nice simple lunch and enjoyed the company they have been providing each other for more than half a century.
“I think to be successful you have to be able to share. Not just the cooking and cleaning but the outside things as well,” Clarrie said.
The have spent many hours together working in their garden – an activity Clarrie said has held the relationship in good stead.
He said there were many reasons as to why their marriage had been so strong for over 60 years.
“Having a lovely family helps you get through and having common interests as well.
“And being a bit old fashioned helps too,” he said with a laugh.
The couple, in their 80s, have made sure the Misson name lives on for many years to come – they have four children, four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
And like most grandparents they love to spend time with their grandchildren.
“I suppose we do spoil them. We don’t see them that often so it’s great when we do,” Clarrie said.
Common interests cement the wedding vows
