A DOVETON man has pleaded guilty to killing a teenager and seriously injuring the dead man’s brother in a car crash last July.
Christophe Etienne, 20, pleaded guilty in the County Court on Monday to one count of culpable driving causing death, two counts of negligently causing serious injury, one count of reckless conduct and two counts of theft.
The charges relate to a crash at the intersection of Power and Kidds Roads in Doveton on 20 July last year.
The car was involved in a brief police pursuit but the chase was terminated after only a few seconds as the vehicle travelled along Power Road.
The vehicle then hit a power pole resulting in the death of 17-year-old Harley Debnam.
Harley’s brother, Josh, was seriously injured in the crash and required surgery to repair a broken arm. The siblings were travelling in the back seat of the car.
Etienne’s sister, also a passenger, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
Etienne and his front-seat passenger were not injured in the collision.
County Court Judge Paul Grant remanded Etienne in custody. He will be sentenced by on 23 May.
