AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD girl has snapped up a prestigious photography award at the Berwick View Finders Camera Club’s night of nights.
The club’s youngest member, Jacinta Pendlebury, received the Nola Hamilton-Stone Memorial Award earlier this month for the best photograph in the Heritage/Nostalgic section.
Jacinta, a Narre Warren resident who attends Maramba Primary School, captured the moment while on a family holiday visiting the country township of Underbool near Ouyen in Victoria’s north-west.
The award winning photo was of an old farm house situated in dry and dusty surrounds.
The youngster, who has won many certificates over the past two years including a bronze medallion for entering prints in various competitions, was thrilled with her latest award.
Jacinta’s father, Shane Pendlebury, said his daughter took the image on a Canon A75 three megapixel camera.
“She has got a very good eye for it,” he said.
“She is pretty keen and really enjoys it.”
Mr Pendlebury recalled Jacinta’s first photo expedition when she was five.
“It was the first time we let her use a camera and we were photographing planes coming in near the airport.
“Jacinta got this great shot of a plane in the diagonal corner of the frame and me with my long lens in the other corner.
“It wasn’t until we put the pictures on the television at home that we realised what a good photo it was,” he said.
Other winners on the night included:
Rob McCluskey – print of the year and large colour print; Melissa Hannah – small print of the year and creative; Ray Chatterton – top slide, monochrome and highest points and Ray McBain – Good on Ya award.
