THE Gleneagles Campus of Eumemmerring College held its Multicultural Day last Wednesday.
In a celebration of the school’s cultural diversity, students were invited to take part in activities that showcased the 71 nationalities represented within the college.
Highlights of the day included opening and closing ceremonies, a cultural costume parade, Koori performances, decorated classrooms and cultural workshops organised by students.
Organising teacher Meagan Neil said she was pleased with the students’ efforts to co-ordinate and organise workshops for other students.
“It gave these students a great opportunity to share their traditions and passions whilst using a range of skills such as leadership and communication,” Ms Neil said.
Students were also given the opportunity to display their talents with Indian and bellydancing, a dramatic Indian play and singing performances taking centre stage.
Lunch was served to students by Anton’s Flying Wok, which tied in with the day’s multicultural flavour.
Awards were presented to all students who gave up their time to run workshops and the Multicultural Day Shield was presented to the best cultural classroom display, by Cambodia and China.
Campus Principal Sue Peddlesden said the day was a popular event on the school’s calendar.
“Past students often comment on their Multicultural Day and have strong memories of their experiences. We are sure this will be the case for our current students,” Ms Peddlesden said.
