OH WHAT a beautiful morning it will be for teenagers Emily Mulholland and Nicola Bull when they take centre stage in the famous musical Oklahoma! next week.
Emily, 16, from Eumemmerring Secondary College and Nicola, 17, from Pakenham Secondary College will join 40 other talented performers, all hand picked from Victorian government schools for their high-degree of musical ability, on stage at Her Majesty’s Theatre from 13 September to 16 September.
Officials from school musical group Joining the Chorus (JtC) cast their eye over hundreds of potential participants to fill the roles and both girls impressed highly with their performance.
Emily has been involved in an array of musical productions and charity performances including the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal and McHappy Day.
“My first production was Hansel and Gretel when I was 12,” Emily said.
Gracing the famous stage of Her Majesty’s Theatre is something the young performer is anticipating with great excitement and at the same time a little nervousness.
“I have never performed there before but I recently watched Fiddler on the Roof at the same theatre so I can’t wait,” she said.
JtC artistic director Mark Laguerre said they scoured the state for leading performers and rehearsals were revving up in preparation for the upcoming shows.
“The energy, dedication and enthusiasm shown by students, including Emily and Nicola, has been spectacular,” Mr Laguerre said.
The Endeavour Hills resident hopes to one day travel to the USA and hit the bright lights of one of the most famous theatre strips in the world.
“I would love to perform in a show on Broadway,” Emily said.
But for now the budding thespian will be wowing audiences a bit closer to home.
Nicola is also no stranger to the limelight. The Pakenham Secondary College student has been performing since the age of 11 and has appeared in a number of productions including Les Miserables and The Pirates of Penzance.
