THE animals at Doveton’s Myuna Farm are walking taller after a bequest was received from an overseas resident.
The family of Dulcie May Davidson, who died in England, passed the bequest on to the farm.
Myuna Farm staff bought a breeding pair of alpacas with the money.
The pair has already produced a cria (baby alpaca) which has been aptly named Casey.
Casey mayor Colin Butler said it was the first bequest Myuna Farm had received.
“I know that it is greatly appreciated by the staff at Myuna Farm and, of course, the visitors. I thank the late Ms Davidson and the Munckton and Majkut families for their generosity,” Cr Butler said.
Myuna Farm is a community farm that preserves Casey’s agricultural history. It gives everyone the opportunity to experience farm life and to have hands-on contact with animals. The peaceful environment of the farm supports river gums, wetlands and bird life.
The alpacas will join the many animals already at home at Myuna Farm – from ducks, kangaroos, wallabies, sheep and cattle to rabbits, guinea pigs, deer and peacocks.
Myuna Farm, at 182 Kidds Road, Doveton, is open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm.
