Girls await squad decision

By Marc McGowan
THE local region has five players still in contention for the Victorian under-19 Australian Rules football side after a practice match was played on the weekend.
Hallam has four of the five contenders in Chloe Peers, Chantelle Hawkins, Kristy Borg and Alicia Heins.
Fifteen-year-old midfield sensation Kara Donnellan is Narre Warren’s sole remaining hope.
The final composition of the squad will be decided tonight (Thursday) and all five footballers will have their fingers crossed in anticipation.
Narre Warren youth girls coach Wally Gasparini expects Donnellan to make the club proud.
“Kara Donnellan is our only hope, but we’re pretty sure she’ll get in. She’s pretty good,” he said.
Donnellan’s chances rose sharply after a stunning performance in the inaugural Victorian Youth Girls Championship at Casey Fields this month.
Selected girls will join the Victorian team in Canberra for the 2007 AFL Women’s National Championships from 9 to 14 July.
