CASEY’S women have been encouraged to invite their close friends around for a girls’ night in, and help raise much-needed funds for breast cancer.
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and Narre Warren resident Carolyn Sutherland has already started the local fundraising push by selling T-shirts supporting the cause.
Last week, Ms Sutherland, a consultant with UnderCoverWear, a leisure and lingerie company, held a promotional stall at Casey Central Shopping Centre in Narre Warren South which helped raise funds and awareness about breast cancer.
UnderCoverWear has formed strong ties with the Cancer Council since launching 25 years ago and has been selling Support the Cause T-shirts since last October.
The T-shirts cost $34 and $10 from their sale goes directly to the Cancer Council to help fund research, education and support services for those affected by breast cancer.
UnderCoverWear has already raised $200,000 in Australia and New Zealand from the T-shirt sales and last week eight local shoppers bought the garments to support the cause.
Ms Sutherland said she hoped local residents would continue to support the cause and get involved with the Cancer Council’s latest initiative – Girls’ Night In.
She said the concept of the event is simple – just invite your girlfriends around for a night in and ask them to donate the equivalent of what they would have usually spent on a night out to the Cancer Council by purchasing the UnderCoverWear items.
UnderCoverWear is helping to run the parties and is sponsoring this year’s event. The event aims to this year raise $1.6 million for women’s cancers.
Ms Sutherland is helping coordinate the local Girls’ Night In parties and said all women who booked the party would receive a free supporting the cause T-shirt if they had more than 10 buying customers.
UnderCoverWear will also donate $20 for the Cancer Council for each guest who spends over $100.
To book a party call Ms Sutherland on 9705-0275 or for more information go to www.girlsnight.com.au
Those who book parties with Ms Sutherland will also go into the draw to win one of six Support the Cause T-shirts.
