STUDENTS from a Narre Warren primary school slipped on their gardening gloves last Thursday as they planted 1000 native Australian trees throughout the school to celebrate World Environment Day.
Hillsmeade Primary School students spent the day rotating through different activities and learning about issues such as water conservation, recycling and tree planting.
Grade 3 teacher and organiser of the event, Evelyn Schultz said the aim of the day was to teach the children about caring for the environment.
“These children are our future. They are like sponges, so we need to pass on this information,” she said.
This is the sixth year the school has been involved with World Environment Day.
