BOYS whose voices are changing are often forced to leave choirs, but thanks to New Voices, a new initiative from the Berwick Youth Choir, they can keep singing.
New Voices is a choir group designed to cater for young men whose voices are going through the transitional phase.
The group is now five boys strong, but is looking for five more members so the group can have the opportunity to tour China next year.
As boys’ voices alter, singing can be difficult, and conventional singing can damage changing vocal cords, said choir committee member Linda Marshall.
The need to focus on and work with that difficulty is the reason behind the creation of New Voices, which was formed from a mixed group called the Chamber Singers.
The Berwick Youth Choir has been around for 22 years and has groups for all ages. The choir is on the corner of Pound Road and Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road, Narre Warren South.
Boys interested in joining New Voices can email enquiries@berwickyouthchoir.com.au or call 0408 515 699.
