Hills set to jump

MORE than $500,000 will be needed for Frog Hollow Reserve to reach its full potential as a regional rugby facility, a Casey Council report has found.
New lighting, the construction of terraces and a new car park are among the nine items identified in the Endeavour Hills reserve’s updated master plan presented to council last week.
The Endeavour Hills Rugby Union Football Club is based at the reserve.
The pavilion recently underwent a $322,000 extension that resulted in two extra change rooms, an extended kitchen, first-aid room, accessible toilet and additional storage.
Extra lighting around the rugby fields is a key component of the upgrade.
“Officers have also held on-site meetings with club representatives to confirm the club’s priorities for development and to discuss other infrastructure development requirements at the site,” the report noted.
“The club’s priority is for training lighting on the secondary fields rather than competition level lighting on the main field.”
Perimeter fencing, planting the main pitch with drought-proof grass and the construction of a high chainwire fence to help prevent balls going into the surrounding wetlands are also on the new master plan.
Councillor Rob Wilson attempted to have two of the nine items funded through money left over from the construction of the pavilion.
However, this effort was thwarted by a majority of councillors at last week’s meeting.
The updated master plan will now be prioritised along side other sports facilities in the City of Casey.
