THE Licencee’s race day at Cranbourne last Thursday was highlighted by four locally prepared winners on the eight-race card.
The main race of the day, the Class 4 Showcase event over 2025 metres, was taken out by young Cranbourne trainer Stephen Theodore’s gelding Just Don’t Ask, ridden by Ricki Cartwright.
Theodore was joined in the winner’s circle by fellow Cranbourne mentors Doug Harrison, Colin Alderson and Ray Besanko.
Well-fancied maiden runner No Fanfare won the second race for Harrison, downing odds-on favourite Maiden Voyage, while Alderson took out the third event with his $15 outsider Nitrous Oxide, ridden by Berwick jockey Matthew Allen.
Besanko triumphed in the Class 3 Handicap later in the afternoon when his three-year-old colt Lago Buoy stormed over its rivals after a superb ride from talented hoop David Taggart.
The race day saw licencees and representatives of hotels and clubs across the district enjoy the hospitality of the Cranbourne Turf Club.
