A HALLAM company is working hard to put a world-first technology on the market.
Last Wednesday, Global Polymer Technologies hosted a visit from Victorian Manufacturing and Export Minister Andre Haermeyer to showcase its unique invention.
The company was also trying to attract State Government funding to further commercialise its product.
Narre Warren North father and son team John and Robert Korosy, who are plastic and automation specialists, originally developed the product and Global Polymer Technologies is now working to commercialise it for world wide sale.
The invention is a poly composite material developed by injecting liquid polyurethane into a polycarbonate, polypropylene and fibre fluted product.
The material is a strong, lightweight, waterproof, insulating, fire- and UV-protected multipurpose polymer based product.
Global Polymer Technologies managing director Jon Brunner said the product offered significant commercial and environmental benefits compared with similar materials and provided the opportunity to create new product ranges across a wide range of industries.
Potential uses include construction of boats, caravans, wall panelling, dividing wall partitions and packaging.
Mr Brunner said the company was hopeful of receiving funding from the State Government to assist with the global launch of its product.
He said the product had already generated interest both in Australia and overseas and it would be great if it could be manufactured locally.
Mr Brunner said State Government funding and other grants were crucial to securing a strong future in manufacturing not only in Victoria but in the local area.
“The idea is one per cent. The other 99 per cent is hard work, contacts, networks and seeking funding,” he said.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan said he was happy to see the minister taking such a keen interest in a local invention.
Mr Donnellan said the product could create great employment and export opportunities for Hallam, Victoria and Australia.
