ENDEAVOUR Hills Ripper Reader Club members turned another page in their passion for books when author Gabrielle Wang stopped in for a visit last week.
About 40 St Paul Apostle North Primary School students joined 10 of the club members at the Endeavour Hills library as part of Children’s Book Week festivities.
Ms Wang entertained the children with a writing and illustration workshop that enabled the bookworms to create their own characters and stories.
The Melbourne author, who has a background in illustration and photography, talked about her latest release, The Garden of Empress Cassia, and how she developed the characters in the much-loved children’s book.
Library officials were encouraged by the attendance and hoped more children would become members of the club after attending Book Week celebrations.
Ripper Reader Club members meet once a month and keep a log book of what they have read and are presented with certificates on accomplishment of their reading goals.
Each meeting has a theme and is conducted by library staff who give away prizes and organise other book-related activities.
The Endeavour Hills group will next meet on Wednesday, 13 September at 4pm. For further information contact 9700 7177.
