HALLAM will soon be home to an upgraded sports facility for use by the wider community.
The outdoor sports and recreation facility will be located at the Hallam Campus of Eumemmerring College with $350,000 of State Government funding going towards the redevelopment.
Eumemmerring College principal, Hallam campus, Andrina Young said the money would enable the college to develop a sports facility that meets the needs of both the school and the local sports community.
“With nearly 3000 students attending the college as well as students from our local primary school attending various sporting workshops, the facility will be of benefit to many young people, not to mention the wider community who will also have access to the facility,” she said.
Minister for Sport and Recreation, James Merlino, attended the school to make the announcement to the delight of the students and staff.
“This is a significant investment in grassroots sports in the City of Casey and this facility will provide a high-quality training and competition venue for the school, community groups and local sports clubs in the area,” he said.
The money will be spent on upgrading the outdoor sports and recreation area to make it more user-friendly and will further increase the school’s successful sporting academy program which has continued to grow since its inception.
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan joined Mr Merlino at the announcement and said he was pleased the new facility would be able to offer more opportunities for the college’s students and residents of the area.
“Working with Casey Council and Eumemmerring College we want to provide a facility serving the growing demand for sports facilities in the area,” he said.
Casey deputy mayor Kevin Bradford also voiced his pleasure at the announcement.
“The City of Casey continues to encourage greater participation in sport among our residents, so the addition of the upgraded facilities will join our existing variety of state-of-the-art sport and recreation facilities,” he said.
