FLOODWATERS came within metres of wreaking havoc on several Hampton Park houses on the weekend.
Narre Warren State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers were quickly on the scene at the corner of Village Drive and Hallam Road after a water main burst on Saturday night.
Tens of thousands of litres of water were sent gushing towards houses, according to SES media liaison officer Kanny Lee.
She said the leaking water also caused a minor gas leak that was quickly fixed by a Country Fire Authority crew on scene.
“It was very close to flooding the homes,” Ms Lee said.
“It was close enough that we left residents with sand bags and tarps because there were quite a few houses that we had to attend to.”
Six SES volunteers made the trip out to help residents protect their houses, Ms Lee said.
The incident is the second burst water main in Hampton Park in just over a fortnight.
The first incident, near Somerville Road, had workers cleaning up debris for more than two days with mud and sludge stretching along the street.
On that occasion local traders and traffic were disrupted for more than 24 hours.
