MORE than $100,000 has been pledged by residents and traders hoping to establish a Bendigo Bank in Hallam.
The push to set up the community bank is gathering steam with hundreds of pledge forms being circulated throughout the area.
Members of the bank steering committee have been manning an information stall at the proposed location in Spring Square each Saturday morning.
The group, which has only been in operation for eight weeks, needs $750,000 of pledges for the bank to be established. Steering committee chairman Danny Gan said he was thrilled with the support shown so far.
“If you have your pledge form on the kitchen bench and it’s something you’ve been going to get around to doing, now is the time to fill it out,” he said.
“Show your support for a project which has the potential to bring great benefits to the entire district.”
Mr Gan, who operates a pharmacy in Spring Square, said having a Bendigo Bank in the area would result in money being poured back into the community.
“Community Bank branches across the nation have delivered millions of dollars back into their communities by way of gifts, sponsorships and dividends – just imagine what we could do in the Hallam area.” Pledges, which are a non-binding indication of the amount intended to invest in the local branch, can be filled out at the information stall each Saturday.
