The one was Lorraine Martin, nee Rhodes, and the Narre Warren couple proudly celebrated their golden wedding anniversary recently.
They were married at Holy Trinity Church in Kew on Caulfield Cup day in 1956 – a day when $3.25 favourite Redcraze saluted in the Cup and Don won the race for Lorraine’s heart.
The couple met at a car company where Don worked as a spray painter and Lorraine handled front office duties as a receptionist.
The active members of the Narre Warren Probus Club have one daughter, Sharlene, who has brought two grandchildren into the world for the Martins.
Don and Lorraine headed to an Upper Beaconsfield restaurant to celebrate their anniversary and enjoyed the company that has brought them so much joy for the last half a century.
