COME one, come all!
That was the catch cry last week when Fountain Gate Primary School hosted its annual fruit and vegetable market.
Students were quick to spruik the array of healthy food on offer and parents rolled up in their droves to buy the fresh produce.
The event coincided with the Narre Warren school’s open night and students spent time weighing the fruit and creating appetising displays before friends and family arrived.
Freshly made apple juice was also on sale and the cash registers were constantly ringing as parents and children stocked up on the healthy goods.
Integration aide Margot Tregear, who helped coordinate the night-time market, said the event formed part of the school’s nutrition program and had been a huge success.
The school is a keen promoter of healthy eating and each day pears and apples from nearby Montague Orchards are sold to students who can purchase two pieces of fruit for 50 cents.
Students can also snack on “brain food” such as fruit throughout the day and the school has a vegetable garden and many other healthy initiatives in place.
Ms Tregear said it was great to see so many parents come along and shop with their children for healthy products and further promote healthy eating and nutrition.
