IT’S birthday celebrations all around as one of Casey’s radio programs, Living Life, turns one.
Casey radio 3SER 97.7 FM’s program, run by five volunteers, is celebrating one year of successfully broadcasting to the Casey community.
Living Life broadcaster Colin Smith said the program was aimed at senior residents over the age of 55.
Since its launch back in May 2007, the weekly radio program has focused on a range of topics including financial planning, travel, health, community activities and retirement planning.
Mr Smith said by volunteering for the show, he felt he was giving something back to the community.
“Producing the show is a lot of fun and it keeps me off the streets,” he said.
Broadcasting for Mr Smith has been a passion for more than 40 years.
“I’m so proud of the show and the fact we have reached its first birthday,” he said.
“And if I’ve got anything to do with it, we’ll have plenty more birthdays to come.”
The program was initiated through council’s Ageing Positively in Casey plan as a new way of delivering topical information to older residents.
City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall made a guest appearance on the program’s first birthday celebration show on 5 May.
“Casey’s older residents make a wonderful contribution to the community in many ways, and I congratulate all of the committed volunteers who have made this program a success,” she said.
The station was also nominated for Casey’s volunteer of the year awards in the innovation category.
Tune into Living Life every Monday from 11am on Casey radio 3SER 97.7 fm.
