CRANBOURNE Secondary College celebrated six new state sports representatives this month.
Brothers Dave and Simon Spencer and fellow students Cam Dinger and Michael Blackburn represented Victoria in their respective age groups at this month’s Australian Junior Indoor Cricket Championships in Queensland.
The quartet had to battle it out for places at a variety of trials over four months before receiving the honour.
On top of their feats, Year 12 students Sakaria Noa and Eddie Fa’amausili played rugby for Victoria at under-18 level.
Cranbourne Secondary College assistant principal Martin Cash is thrilled with their success.
“Every year we have a number of kids who do all sorts of things because we’re a school of 1500,” he said.
“We encourage kids to pursue outside interests, not just in sport, but in, for example, performing arts or other cultural pursuits.
“We want kids to be well-rounded, not just academically, but we want them functioning well in the community and sport is a big part of our culture.”
Cranbourne Secondary College also played its part in covering the costs of travel associated with the students’ selections.
Cash said the school supported the boys with a donation towards their trips.
“They apply with a letter and we do it for not just these kids, but any kid who represents the state,” he said.
“The school council makes a small contribution of about $100 each.”
