SPADE-WIELDING students at Chalcot Lodge Primary School are digging deep to spruce up their schoolyard.
Staff from Bunnings Warehouse visited the school twice recently to help parents and senior pupils give two areas of the Endeavour Hills school a makeover.
The team is tidying up a large, rundown area at the back of the school, re-establishing a walkway and planting the area with native plants, complete with informative plaques.
The second area receiving attention is beside the school flagpole, where the team is creating a special garden as a more fitting memorial to those who have fought for Australia.
Principal Kay Schlanger hoped the garden would be ready in time for Remembrance Day.
She said the partnership with Bunnings had generated excitement and a feeling of belonging among the children.
“The main focus is to increase the children’s sense of connection and engagement with the school and a sense of looking after the environment,” she said.
