STUDENTS at Eumemmerring Primary School found out what comes after lowest prices on Tuesday when Bunnings Warehouse performed a school yard blitz.
The school grounds had a special look after Dandenong Bunnings donated $300 and several team-members to help revamp and reshape two large garden beds.
The entire school community joined the team in red to help dig holes, move mulch, sow plants and give the area a native feel.
Dandenong Bunnings manager Wayne Lance said the warehouse was trying to become more involved with the local community and the school yard blitz program was an ideal way to start.
“We had 12 local schools enter the program to win a school ground make-over and Eumemmerring was lucky enough to win second prize,” Mr Lance said.
Chalcot Lodge Primary School in Endeavour Hills took out the first prize of $1000 and will see their improvements take place when team-members from Bunnings visit their school next month.
“We address the school as an entire group and try to educate them about how they can continue to look after their grounds once the blitz has happened,” Mr Lance said.
Students also learn about drought tolerant plants, how to prepare soils and mulches and the benefit native plants bring to the environment.
“There is a big education message that goes with the actual work we do within the school grounds.
“We also try and make sure the students have pride in how their school looks and enjoy looking after the garden beds in the future.”
