WITH the weather heating up, it’s the perfect time to teach kids about water safety.
That’s exactly what Jo Keesman, coordinator of Swimland Hampton Park Water Safety Week, hopes to promote.
During the week the pool will be transformed with water safety activities to teach children basic lifesaving and survival in the water.
Cards will introduce the children to the basic steps of CPR.
There will also be giveaways from the Royal Lifesaving Society, which is partly responsible for the event, and every half hour the water safety song ‘Kids alive do the five’ by Laurie Lawrence will play. Jo Keesman says the event is of importance and promotes the need for children to know about water safety.
“I’m surprised by how many kids don’t know how to swim,” she says.
“Everybody should get their children to learn.”
