Tutoring goes online

CASEY students can now experience a virtual classroom next time they visit their local library.
Free tutoring help will also be offered online as part of the innovative new service recently introduced by Casey-Cardinia Library Corporation (CCLC).
The launch of the program, which is open for students from grade four to year 12, has been timed to coincide with Australian Library and Information Week.
English, maths and science subjects are included in the yourtutor program, which is available between 4pm and 8pm from Monday to Friday.
Students can log on to yourtutor from either a library or home computer.
Casey mayor and CCLC board member Janet Halsall said the service showed commitment to providing first-class services for young people in the area.
“Although over a million Australian school kids receive tutoring support each year, the cost is just too much for many parents,” Cr Halsall said.
“We believe every student in the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire should be able to get the help they need to succeed at school, regardless of their circumstances.”
Library officials said all tutors were certified teachers, professional tutors, postgraduates or advanced undergraduates from Australian universities.
