THE Star News Group, publisher of the News, has again achieved success at the annual Community Newspapers of Australia Awards for Excellence.
At Friday’s gala presentation evening, the Star News Group was awarded the Best Website at the 38th Community Newspapers of Australia Southern Division of Awards for Excellence in Melbourne.
Judge Stephen McCormack of MWeb Solutions said with so many publications under the Star banner, it might be easy to get lost on this website.
“But a well thought-out navigation system ensured the reader can manoeuvre without difficulty. With a strong editorial emphasis, this site is sure to appeal to the discerning reader. My favourite link – News Forum,” he said.
Star News Group operations and systems manager Calvin Osborne, who created the website, said he was delighted with the award.
“Launching onto the Internet has been a huge learning curve,” he said.
“It is good to know that the community appreciates the website and to also get this sort of recognition.
“I encourage all Star News Group readers to jump on and have a look at what is happening in their local community.”
Mr Osborne said since launching the website just over a year ago there had been some exciting new additions.
These include Star Photos, which allows readers to search local photos and buy prints and premiership posters for winning football teams.
Mr Osborne said these new services had been well received by readers.
Star News Group reporter Shaun Inguanzo of the Dandenong and Springvale Noble Park Star was nominated in the Best Feature Story category for his story Iraq a Violet Revolution at Friday night’s presentation.
News reporter Rebecca Fraser was nominated in the Best News Story category for her story Bracks Moves to Help Family.
