Week counted a success

STUDENTS from Strathaird Primary School showed plenty of character recently while celebrating National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW).
The Narre Warren South pupils held a parade on Friday, 18 August in which children arrived at school dressed as their favourite book character.
The parade was the culmination of a week of celebrations that included numeracy activities and competitions, a fairy tale afternoon tea, a bring-and-buy book fair involving the entire school and a performance of The Frog Prince.
The final chapter of the school’s week of words and numbers saw school principal Peter Wood, complete with canine costume, read Doctor Dog to parents.
Strathaird Primary got in on the act ahead of most other schools, with NLNW officially due to run from Monday, 28 August to Sunday, 3 September.
Classroom teacher Tenylle Clark-Allison said the week had been a fantastic success.
“It had the overwhelming support of the parents and every single staff member dressed up for the parade.
“It really promoted what we’ve been doing in the classroom in terms of literacy and numeracy,” she said.
Ms Clark-Allison said the experience had been confirmation for the children that learning could be fun.
“They had an absolute ball,” she said.
