SWIMMERS at Casey ARC are in good hands if a recent safety inspection is anything to go by.
The Fountain Gate facility was recently awarded one of the highest scores ever, 99.1 per cent, from Life Saving Victoria.
The annual inspection judges various factors including supervision, first aid, technical operations and pool operations at the YMCA-managed centre.
Casey ARC official Daniel Kerr said the centre catered for nearly one million visitors every year.
“In a facility the size of Casey, ARC safety is of the utmost importance,” he said.
He said the result was fantastic for staff and showed the commitment the YMCA had to safety within its aquatic facilities.
“We pride ourselves in offering a well-supervised facility, but we still need to get the message out there that nothing ever takes the place of parental supervision for children,” he said.
Team leader Brendan Willis said all lifeguards were required to attend safety training sessions every three months.
“We try to avoid having to perform rescues by educating patrons on the importance of being safe around the water,” he said.
“Our philosophy is prevention is better than a cure.”
