Stay alert, drivers told

CASEY council is urging residents to focus on safe driving as students head back to school.
The City of Casey has one of the highest road tolls of any municipality in Victoria and the advice from experts is that there are several commonsense things drivers can do when dropping children at school or picking them up.
Drivers always need to slow down around schools and adhere to reduced speed limits.
Casey police service manager Inspector Maurice Lynn said the number one recommendation to all drivers was to concentrate on the road.
“Driver distraction is a major contributing factor to fatal and serious injury crashes,” he said. “Reaching to select a CD, changing radio stations, twisting back to attend to children and texting and talking on a mobile phone are all distractions.”
Speeding, alcohol consumption and driver fatigue were also big contributors to accidents.
The City of Casey’s Hoon Hotline is 1800 18 HOON (1800 18 4666).
