TRAFFIC congestion in Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road will ease with the $7 million upgrade between Centre Road and Pound Road at Narre Warren South.
Work on the project began this month.
It includes duplication of lanes and the construction of bicycle paths.
The upgrade includes protected turn lanes to improve road access and safety during U-turns.
Completion is scheduled for the second half of 2009.
Booming residential development in Melbourne’s outer south east has increased reliance on the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road carriageway as a primary route for local travel and as an access to commercial and industrial areas.
The duplication will improve traffic flow and reduce delays, especially at peak times.
“The works will assist safety, mobility, and access for residents and drivers travelling between Narre Warren and Cranbourne,” MP Judith Graley said.
Major works on Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road in recent years have included the removal of a rail level crossing as well as widening near the Princes Highway.
