Weekend break-ins at Casey schools

By Kelly Yates
SCHOOLS in Casey have been the target of burglaries.
Police are calling for witnesses to assist with investigations after three schools were broken into within the past two weeks.
Thieves smashed a window to enter Berwick’s Kambrya Secondary College along Bemersyde Drive between 11.45pm and 11.58pm on Sunday 20 July and stole a laptop, $10 worth of coins and a calculator from one of the portable classrooms.
Acting principal of Kambrya Secondary College Michael Muscat said the school had now installed security cameras and fencing to prevent any further break-ins.
Mr Muscat praised the local police for their assistance.
Thieves also hit Fountain Gate Primary School, stealing more than 50 Big M drinks from the school canteen between 2.50am and 2.53am on Friday 25 July.
Principal of Fountain Gate Primary School Jenny Duggan said this was the second time, in the school’s 25 years of operating, that the canteen had been targeted.
“The canteen seems to be a popular spot despite there being no money left on the premises,” she said.
Ms Duggan said the school had a security system including cameras and nightly patrols.
Police have video footage of three young people wearing jackets with hoods, jumping the fence of the Prospect Hill Road School at 2.53am.
Vandals damaged the toilet block in Narre Warren South P-12 College between 5pm on 25 July and 8am on 26 July.
Police said the offenders pulled off the toilet doors and smashed two of the basins in the Amberley Park Drive School.
Anyone with information about any of the burglaries is urged to call the Narre Warren Police Station on 9705 3111.
