Police on fast food

POLICE will be on the beat of a different kind tomorrow (Friday).
The men and women in blue will be behind the counter at McDonald’s stores in the City of Casey to serve customers, take orders and count cars.
The role is all part of the annual McDonald’s Drive Thru Challenge fundraiser.
McDonald’s will donate $1 to the Blue Ribbon Foundation for every vehicle that orders through a McDonald’s drive-thru between 6pm and 7pm.
Police will be serving customers at stores in Berwick, Cranbourne, Doveton, Endeavour Hills, Fountain Gate, Hampton Park and Lyndhurst.
The Cranbourne store served a state record of 165 cars during the one-hour period last year.
Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon is getting behind the event, which has raised more than $84,000 in the last three years.
“We hope to be kept very busy during our time behind the counter to raise as much money as possible for Blue Ribbon,” Ms. Nixon said.
“We have officers at nearly every McDonald’s across Victoria and this is a great chance to not only raise money but to also meet your local police,” she said.
Money raised will help fund emergency and trauma medical facilities in Victorian public hospitals.
Blue Ribbon Foundation CEO Neil Soullier said the event was vital for the group’s fundraising efforts.
“We are grateful for McDonald’s continued support through the Drive Thru Challenge, which has allowed us to purchase much-needed medical facilities for local community hospitals.”
