Sport in brief

Narre Warren Little Athletics Club had its registration and information day on Saturday.
One of the club’s past athletes, Alice Platten, came along and presented club president Steve Fenton with a signed photo of herself after her recent win at the Stawell Gift in the 400m.
The Australian Athletic Confederation named Platten as the professional female sprinter of the year this month and she has her sights set on the 2012 London Olympics.
The 23-year-old now runs for senior athletics club Ringwood and is training up to six days a week.
Platten’s advice for young ‘little athletes’ was to do their best and enjoy themselves in their sport.
The club was also presented with a photo of recent Beijing Olympian and past club member Jeff Riseley.
Unfortunately Riseley was unable to attend due to other commitments.
Fenton thanked both Platten and Riseley for their ongoing support of the club and wished them both the best for their futures. If old club members and prospective new members were unable to attend Saturday’s registration day, they could still come along to the first training evening on Thursday 18 September from 5pm to 6pm at Max Pawsey Reserve, Fountain Drive, Narre Warren. Committee members will be in attendance to answer questions regarding new memberships and assist with registration of athletes for the upcoming track and field season. The season begins on Saturday 4 October at the Dandenong Little Athletics Centre, Robert Booth Reserve (next to Myuna Farm), Clow Street, Dandenong.
