A NARRE Warren boy is nursing serious burns to his leg after toy caps exploded in the pocket of his pants.
Daniel Brown, 9, was playing soccer with his brother when the caps went off unexpectedly.
Daniel’s father, Murray, said his son bought the caps from a store at Fountain Gate Shopping Centre.
The burns from the small explosion were enough to break the skin on Daniel’s leg.
The caps, which come in a ring of eight, are normally used in toy guns.
Mr Brown said he wanted other parents to be aware of the dangers caps could present.
“I am sure they sell these caps in all those cheap discount style shops and people would be unaware of the problems they can cause,” he said.
Mr Brown said he had contacted the store owner who had removed the caps from the shelf.
“He is a bit sore. It has broken the skin and also melted into his tracksuit pants,” he said.
The youngster needed to take a couple of days off school to recuperate, he said.
