FIREFIGHTERS from across the south east were at the Hallam Fire Brigade on Sunday for the station’s annual open day.
More than 800 people turned up to the event, which included hands-on activities for many of the visitors.
Fire safety and education played a big part in the day, with children able to learn about what to do in the event of a fire through home safety displays and the popular smokehouse activity.
Hallam Fire Brigade media officer Audrey Corcoran said the open day was a huge success.
“Members of the public were able to view emergency appliances from other fire stations such as Dandenong, Hampton Park and Frankston,” she said.
Ms Corcoran said the junior brigade proved to be a popular attraction.
“Young members were on hand during the day to demonstrate their fire fighting skills,” she said.
The junior brigade is open to children aged 11 to 16 who are keen to develop basic fire fighting and teamwork skills.
“The day was well supported by the local community, and Hallam Fire Brigade members would like to thank all those who came along for their support,” Ms Corcoran said.
