Fresh awards for young writers

WINNERS of the Fresh Words young writers’ competition were recognised for their outstanding pieces of creative writing at an official awards presentation at the Civic Centre in Narre Warren.
The Fresh Words writing competition encouraged young people aged from 12 to 18 years of age to express their creativity and put words on paper.
The three categories included creative writing, poetry and lyrics and English as a second language.
The competition attracted more than 70 entries from students at various schools.
Rebekah Truman won the creative writing category for the 12 to 14 years age group while Alana Sattler took home the prize for the 15 to 16 years age group.
Ben Zerbst won the creative writing category for the 17 to 18 years age group.
Jasmin Hayward won the poetry and lyrics category for the 12 to 14 years age group while Shynea Johnston-Brown was presented the prize for the 15 to 16 years age group.
Erin Bradshaw won the 17 to 18 years age group for the poetry and lyrics section.
The winner of the English as a second language category was Laila Ahai.
