Cable theft arrests

POLICE arrested two men in Narre Warren yesterday (Wednesday) after 200 metres of cabling was stolen.
A Narre Warren police patrol attended Wilson Botanic Park in Berwick at about 2.30am after a resident saw a truck leave the reserve with a large amount of cabling hanging from the vehicle.
Police tried to intercept the truck on the Princes Highway, at the intersection of the Monash Freeway, but the vehicle continued along the highway with the cabling dragging along the road.
Police said the truck made a series of turns through residential streets near Webb Street in Narre Warren before it knocked over a light pole and the cabling fell out of the tray.
The vehicle pulled over in a service lane on the Princes Highway and the two men fled.
One of the men was arrested near the truck.
A second man was apprehended at a house in Narre Warren.
Police said the two men were assisting detectives with their inquiries.
