A BERWICK man is joining the upcoming race for a position on Casey Council.
Sam Aziz, who has been living in the City of Casey for 25 years, says he will start door-knocking throughout the Springfield Ward when the candidate nominations close on 28 October.
Mr Aziz said the upcoming November elections would be the most critical elections in the history of the City of Casey.
“The current people on council can’t work as a team and deliver the important priorities to the residents,” he said.
“The rate-payers have been suffering for a long time under the present council and it’s time teamwork and good governance was brought back to the council.”
Mr Aziz said he wanted to develop a strong partnership between the council and local police to reduce crime and improve community safety.
He also said he wanted to stop the spread of poker machines in Casey.
“I’ll be looking at eliminating council waste and mismanagement such as travel junkets as well as improving efficiency in the delivery of council services and facilities,” he said.
Mr Aziz said he would also push for more funding for grass roots sporting clubs and ensuring that the attraction of elite sport to Casey does not detract from these clubs.
He is employed as a director with the Australian Customs Service.
Over the past 10 years, Mr Aziz has been employed in various senior positions with the Commonwealth Government and was a director on the Board of the Metropolitan Fire Brigade.
Mr Aziz has also served on several council and school committees in Berwick.
The current Springfield Ward councillors are Michael Farley and Lorraine Wreford.
