PEARCEDALE’S Brent Landman moved within two points of leader Cameron Taylor after winning round two of the Dirt Bike Masters Pro Open series at Traralgon recently.
Landman won races two and three to claim the overall victory for the weekend, pushing his total points to 127 over two rounds, behind Taylor on 129.
Another Pearcedale resident, Chase Mosig, won the first race, but crashed out in race two, ending his weekend.
Taylor did not walk away empty handed, as he won the Pro Lites division, backing up his victory in the same division at Pakenham.
With the win, Taylor opened up a comfortable 23-point lead in the Lites over second-placed Brad Matheson, and short of crashing out in the finale, should claim the prize.
But the weekend belonged to Landman and he said he was happy to beat his friend and rival, Taylor.
“Cam’s been a top rider in Australia for a lot of years now, he’s definitely pretty fast and he’s definitely a good Motocross rider, so to beat him was good,” he said.
“The first race I kind of got a bad start, but I worked my way up into third and had a good battle with second. The next two I got better starts, got out in front and won pretty easily, I was pretty happy with it.”
Landman said he benefited from extra preparation before the race, citing it as a reason he lost all three races to Taylor in round one.
“I didn’t have the bike set up right, I’d been riding a lot of Supercross and I hadn’t done a lot of Motocross – this time I rode a lot on Friday and got a good Motocross setting and that was probably the main difference.”
With one round remaining, Landman was optimistic about his chances.
“Hopefully I can get another win – there’s no reason why I can’t, if everything goes well.”
