AFTER 18 months of waiting, drivers can finally enjoy a smooth ride on the Berwick-Cranbourne Road.
The State Government funded the $17 million highly anticipated upgrade between the Grices Road and Thompsons Road, which extends south from the recently completed duplication at Berwick between Cresthaven Boulevard and Grices Road.
Roads and Ports Parliamentary Secretary Martin Pakula said that the project demonstrates the State Government’s determination to ensure safety and reduce road congestion on Victoria’s roads.
“Local motorists will have access to two lanes in each direction between Grices Road and Thompsons Road once works are completed,” he said.
“This duplication will provide a more efficient and safer road link for motorists travelling between Berwick, Cranbourne and surrounding communities.”
The project includes two lanes in each direction between Grices Road and Thompsons Road, a new two-lane roundabout at the Thompsons Road intersection which opened at 4am Tuesday, and traffic signals at the Grices Road intersect built as part of a separate contract to improve safety and increase traffic flow.
Narre Warren South MP Judith Graley said the duplication along the Berwick-Cranbourne Road, along with work in progress on the Narre Warren-Cranbourne Road and Cranbourne-Frankston Road, will not only make driving easier but will give support to the state’s booming population and ensure a positive community for Victorians to live, work and raise a family in.
Mr Pakula agreed. “High quality roads allow communities to spend more time at home and less time in the car and help maintain the liveability of our suburbs,” he said.
The project was the next stage of the planned duplication of the Berwick-Cranbourne Road between the Princes Freeway at Berwick and to South Gippsland Highway east of Cranbourne.
