Jessica-Jade Bruce has been selected to attend the prestigious Australian College of Country Music in Tamworth, with the course ending a week ahead of the Telstra’s Road to Tamworth competition in which she is taking part.
Teenager Jessica-Jade will headline the Country Rocks Casey concert in November to help raise the $3000 tuition fee required by the school.
“It would definitely give me an edge. It would help me out a lot- they have famous artists and recording people there,” she said.
She applied to attend the school earlier this year with a sample of her music that included a video clip. Jessica-Jade says she was surprised when she got accepted last month.
“I didn’t think I would get in, because there are so many talented country music singers out there,” she said.
Jessica-Jade, who turns 18 in November, will be the youngest artist at the camp. The only formal coaching she has received is vocal lessons at her school.
She lists Janis Joplin and Johnny Cash as two of her favourite musicians.
Jessica-Jade’s music skills are impressive considering she only started playing the guitar three years ago.
City of Casey councillor Wayne Smith said Jessica-Jade gave a great performance at a recent mayoral concert.
“She was a great hit with the audience. She’s a nice girl and she’s really keen to get out there,” he said.
Jessica-Jade will also perform with her alternative rock band Silver Reasons.
The band won Casey’s Battle of the Bands last year and has a professionally recorded EP.
Also performing at the all-ages Country Rocks Casey concert is Australian Idol contestant Madison Pritchett, Casey Idol winner Naomi Horsely, Amy Ciancio, Chris Newman, Kerrigan LaBrooy and Nikki Miller.
Country Rocks Casey will be held at the Cranbourne Community Theatre on Friday 14 November at 7pm. Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door unless sold out prior.
