Methane mess petition

CASEY residents can sign a petition to establish an independent and public inquiry about how the Brookland Greens methane gas mess occurred.
The State Government has called on the Ombudsman to investigate the debacle in the Cranbourne estate, which led to the evacuation of about 200 residents from their homes.
But City of Casey mayor Janet Halsall has argued that an open and independent inquiry was needed to discover the real answers to the fiasco.
“The sort of answers that only an open and independent inquiry can deliver,” Cr Halsall said. “The Ombudsman is an officer responsible to the State Government and, as we all know, both VCAT and the EPA are also State Government instrumentalities.”
South Eastern Metropolitan Region MP Inga Peulich has established a petition calling for an open inquiry.
“The longer this government avoids this action, the longer it delays the recourse, answers and justice this community deserves,” Ms Peulich said. She said another aim of the petition was to call on the government to establish a fund to assist residents in the emergency response measures.
