Scorpions ‘wait’ for coach announcement

CASEY Scorpions officials are still unable to officially announce Peter German as their new coach as negotiations with AFL club Melbourne drag on.
The Scorpions and the City of Casey-bound Demons will become VFL-AFL partners, but ongoing contractual discussions continue to delay any announcements from taking place.
St Kilda officials severed ties with Casey this year after eight seasons together.
Scorpions’ general manager Brian Woodman expects former North Melbourne centreman German’s appointment to be confirmed in the next week.
“Peter has been in Western Australia and landed back in Melbourne last night (Tuesday) and we’re just finalising the details,” Woodman said.
German, 43, played 185 games for the Kangaroos between 1984 and 1994.
He has been an assistant coach at AFL clubs Fremantle, West Coast and Hawthorn and coached WAFL club Subiaco to two premierships.
German will have a similar coaching role at Melbourne as what former Casey mentor Greg Hutchison had at St Kilda.
The Demons begin training next Thursday at Casey Fields that will be a temporary summer training base for the club until construction on the new Melbourne Rectangular Stadium at Olympic Park is completed.
Melbourne will also train at the Cranbourne East venue from 8am on 10, 12 and 14 November.
